Roofs on Mountain Homes and Cabins: What to Know
Snow load. Deep Creek winters bring heavy, repeated snowfall. Roof framing, decking and fasteners have to handle the weight, and sagging lines or cracked rafters are warning signs.
Ice dams. When heat escapes into the attic, snow melts and refreezes at the cold eaves, pushing water under shingles. Air sealing, insulation and balanced ventilation are the real fix; ice and water barrier along the eaves is the backup.
Vacation homes and rentals. Homes that sit empty between stays can hide a leak for weeks. A fall roof and gutter check, clear valleys and sound flashing around chimneys and skylights help prevent winter damage.
Trees and wind. Lake and ridge homes take wind-driven rain and falling limbs, so check for lifted shingles and debris after storms.
Questions
Is Peak Precision Contracting working in Maryland now?
Not yet. We are preparing a Deep Creek Lake / Garrett County location and our Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC) license is in progress. We will not take on Maryland home improvement work until it is issued. Join the interest list and we will contact you when we open.
Why do Deep Creek roofs need special attention?
Garrett County gets far more snow than Pittsburgh, so roofs there deal with heavy snow loads, freeze-thaw cycles and ice dams at the eaves. Good attic ventilation and insulation, ice and water barrier at eaves and valleys, and solid flashing matter even more on mountain homes and cabins.
